Pictured above: Our Thompson Safeway team collaborated closely with MKO and NCN to develop a Land Acknowledgment that honours Cree language and culture. The plaque and painting are proudly displayed at the front of the store.

  • Pictou Landing First Nation (PLFN) is the most proximal Mi’kmaw community to Sobeys home roots in Stellarton, Nova Scotia. In June 2023, this became our first formal community partnership. Starting with respectful listening and dialogue with community leaders, we co-developed an action plan focused on food sovereignty, community learning, employment opportunities, and support for the Mi’kmaw language program.
  • The Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) and Nishichawayasihk (NCN) are two communities that our Thompson, Manitoba Safeway team continues to work closely with. We partner in several areas, including embedding Cree language and culture in stores through aisle markers, supporting the MKO Food Bank and Community Action Fund, offering work placements through the Boys and Girls Club, and commissioning artwork from local Indigenous artists.
  • The Siksika Nation and Tsuut’ina Nation are located near our Calgary office. While our relationship is still growing, we’re building it together through shared experiences—whether attending career fairs with Community Futures Treaty 7, supporting the design of a new community café, or participating in the Siksika Health Fair to share information about pharmacy services and diabetes care. We are committed to nurturing this relationship, grounded in truth, respect, humility, and courage.
  • We know that meaningful collaboration begins by coming together, and we’re excited to explore even more opportunities to partner with Indigenous communities across Canada.
